Interoperable Digital Twins through the Use of the Asset Administration Shell (AAS): A Cross-Enterprise AAS Use Case and Its Benefits from a Customer Perspective
- Today, a great deal of effort must be put into completing, providing, identifying, structuring, formatting, and integrating the digital twin data before the value creation process, such as engineering a machine, can begin.
- The reasons for this are the lack of interoperability in the cross-enterprise exchange of digital twins, as each vendor provides "different" digital twin data, and the fact that no universal standard is used.
- By using the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and Siemens software solutions, a standardized exchange of the digital twin's data across company boundaries is realized to increase efficiency and data quality, especially in the engineering phase.
- From the customer's perspective (Bausch+Ströbel), the advantages of the AAS, especially with regard to time savings, are explained.
